The Problem

The Multi-Layered and Exacerbating Dilemma of Food Insecurity

Food insecurity is a critical issue throughout various communities in Atlanta. It impacts not only individuals but also the sum economic stability and social cohesion of an entire community, hindering the growth and development of various neighborhoods throughout metropolitan Atlanta. Thousands of families struggle to access sufficient, safe, and nutritious food, leading to negative outcomes such as poor health and reduced productivity. This systemic problem often intersects with poverty and limited access to resources, exacerbating existing inequalities like representation in fields of science.

We're dedicated to taking things one step at a time, enhancing first and foremost community gardens. Our core values center around community building, sustainable practices, and maintaining an innovative scientific approach–all aimed at developing strong roots in our communities and providing them the agency to thrive and flourish on their own. 

The Journey of Rooted in Solutions

December, 2024

ROOTED IN SOLUTIONS IS FOUNDED

Sharing a passion for gardening and community, a group of students at the Westminster Schools developed the core idea of Rooted in Solutions: the innovative application of science and education to combat the systemic problem of food insecurity throughout hundreds of communities across the United States. Centering around augmenting our local community gardens first, the gears of Rooted in Solutions started turning... 

April, 2025 and Beyond

ROOTED IN SOLUTIONS PUSHES AHEAD

After already servicing three community gardens, Rooted in Solutions is in the process of adopting a method for cheap soil testing in order to expand outreach. Moreover, the organization is pushing for 501(c)3 status and looking to establish sustainable sources of income through grants and sponsorships. By the end of 2025, Rooted in Solutions hopes to have serviced dozens of gardens across the nation.
